Who Is GaddafiWho Is Gaddafi, A post-mortem on the body of former leader Muammar Gaddafi of Libya has taken place in Misrata, an official told the BBC.

He said the body would be handed over to their families. The funeral has been delayed, with officials divided over what to do with the body.

The UN and the family have requested a full investigation into his death.

Video footage showed Gadhafi alive after his capture in Sirte on Thursday and then died shortly after.

The U.S. has asked the new government of Libya to give a full report of the death of Qaddafi in a “open and transparent manner.”

Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) is expected to formally announce the release of the country during the weekend.

Date of Election

The first elections must take place in June, as prime minister of Libya, he said.

“According to what we call constitutional declaration, the first election after the liberation of the country … should be within a period of eight months maximum,” said Mahmoud Jibril a conference in Jordan.

“The National Congress of Libya … is entitled to two tasks, the first to write a constitution on which we will have a referendum and the second task is to form the interim government that will last until the first presidential elections take out. ”

Meanwhile, NATO says it will end its campaign in Libya on October 31.

The alliance’s Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said that as the mission wound down, the NATO “will ensure that no attacks on civilians during the transition period.”

Seven months after the NATO campaign of air strikes took place under the UN mandate authorizing the use of force to protect civilians in Libya.

Body in freezer

Hundreds of Libyans had been queuing up to get a view of Gaddafi’s body in a storage room Misrata meat.

Gabriel Gatehouse of the BBC in the city says some – mostly women – craned their necks to see the body of his son Mutassim, who also died on Thursday.

Officials, including interim Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril, have also been to see the bodies.

It is unclear whether the former leader to be buried in Misrata, in his hometown of Sirte, or elsewhere.

NTC officials had previously said it would hold a funeral in secret to avoid any grave which became a sanctuary.

“The main concern”

Meanwhile, questions are growing as to exactly what happened in the last moments of Gadhafi after his capture.

Mr. Jibril said Colonel Gaddafi had been shot in the head in a shootout between supporters and fighters Gaddafi in Sirte NTC.

Video images suggests that it was dragged through the streets.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the NTC “, has been working to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the death of Gaddafi, and obviously, we urge you to do so in an open and transparent As we move forward. ”

However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that “the manner in which his death occurred represents a number of questions.”

Lavrov called for a full investigation, echoing a similar call from the UN Human Rights Commissioner, Navi Pillay.

However, correspondents, some Libyans are concerned about how to end humiliate their former dictator. The celebrations continued late into the night through Libya.

Gaddafi, who seized power in a coup in 1969, was overthrown in August. He was making his last stand in Sirte with two of his sons, Mutassim and Saif al-Islam, according to reports.

There are conflicting reports about the whereabouts of Saif al-Islam, and Gaddafi’s security chief – they are as a whole.
