Whitney Houston Burial, Whitney Houston was laid to rest on Sunday in a private burial before family and close friends near her birthplace in Newark, New Jersey, more than a week after her sudden death shocked the world.

The pop star, whose powerful voice fuelled her rise to fame in the mid-1980s with self-titled albums that made her a global pop star, died in a Beverly Hills hotel room last week. She was found underwater in a bathtub, but an exact cause of death has yet to be determined.

Dozens of fans lined the edge of street barriers as the procession carrying Houston’s body drove by under tight security from a funeral home in Newark, New Jersey to the Forest Lawn cemetery in nearby Westfield where Houston’s body was buried next to her father.

“It was emotional,” Teresa Giannetta, 35, who lives in Westfield and showed up with her daughter, Julia, 8, said after the hearse went by. Like many fans, Giannetta said she grew up listening to Houston’s music and likened the singer to “the voice of my childhood.”

“It’s bittersweet to have her buried so close to home for us,” she said.

Houston was laid to rest in her burial site after stars, family and friends mourned her in a spirited Baptist funeral service at her hometown church on Saturday. The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark was where Houston honed her wide vocal range as a young choral singer with her mother Cissy Houston, a backup singer for Aretha Franklin.

Whitney Houston Cause Of Death, Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music’s queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen told reporters outside the Beverly Hilton that Ms Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday in her room on the fourth floor of the hotel. Her body remained there and Beverly Hills detectives were investigating.

“There were no obvious signs of any criminal intent,” Rosen said.

Ms Houston’s publicist, Kristen Foster, said the cause of death was unknown.

Lt. Rosen said police received an emergency call from hotel security about Houston at 3:43 p.m. on Saturday. Paramedics who were already at the hotel because of a Grammy party unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the singer, he said.

Ms Houston’s end came on the eve of music’s biggest night – the Grammy Awards. It’s a showcase where she once reigned, and her death was sure to cast a heavy pall on Sunday’s ceremony.

Her longtime mentor Clive Davis was to hold his annual concert and dinner on Saturday at the hotel where her body was found and a representative of the show said it would proceed.

Producer Jimmy Jam, who had worked with Houston, said he anticipated the evening would become a tribute to her, and he expected there to be one at the Grammys as well.

Ms Houston was supposed to appear at the gala, and Davis said that she would perhaps perform: “It’s her favourite night of the year … (so) who knows by the end of the evening,” he said.

Ms Houston had been at rehearsals for the show on Thursday, coaching singers Ms Brandy and Ms Monica, according to a person who was at the event but was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The person said Ms Ms Houston looked dishevelled, was sweating profusely and liquor and cigarettes could be smelled on her breath.

Two days ago, she performed at a pre-Grammy party with singer Kelly Price. Singer Kenny Lattimore hosted the event, and said Ms Houston sang the gospel classic “Jesus Loves Me” with Price, her voice registering softly, not with the same power it had at its height.

Whitney Houston Passed Away, Houston’s body was found inside a bathtub in a room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned.

Investigators for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office worked on the scene to find the cause of her death as celebrities poured into the building for a pre-Grammy gala that Houston was supposed to attend. Producer Clive Davis, her mentor, dedicated the event to her. The Coroner’s Office workers transferred Houston’s body out of the building early on Sunday.

Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen said authorities received a 911 call from hotel security at 3:43 p.m. There were “no obvious signs of foul play and no obvious signs of a cause of death,” he said.

“Upon arrival, first responders discovered Whitney Houston unresponsive,” police said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com. “They initiated CPR, but were unable to revive her. At approximately 3:55 p.m. Whitney Houston, age 48 was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Whitney Houston was positively identified at the scene by members of her entourage which included friends, co-workers and family,” the statement added.”Ms. Houston’s daughter and mother were notified of her death.”

Police would not say if there were any drugs or alcohol were found in the room. The pop, soul and R&B singer had struggled with substance abuse for years. She relapsed and returned to rehab in May.

Houston was set to perform on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton at a pre-Grammy gala for producer Clive Davis, who discovered her. The event took place as scheduled. A crime lab bus was seen parked outside as guests gathered inside the building. Davis and scheduled performer R&B singer Alicia Keys embraced in front of the vehicle.

“It’s semi-festive and .. surreal,” television personality Larry King, 78, told CNN. “I’ve never been at a party like this. Her remains are still in this hotel. They haven’t removed them yet. The police are here. Crowds are outside. The room is packed.”
