White House Easter Egg Roll, President Obama cheers on children rolling Easter eggs at the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn last April 25.   Tickets to one of D.C.’s hottest spring events will be up for grabs Thursday as the popular White House Easter Egg Roll opens its online lottery.

Hopeful egg-rollers can register for tickets from 10 a.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Monday.

The event, now in its 134th year, will take place on the South Lawn of the White House on Monday, April 9.

Last year, more than 200,000 people applied but just 30,000 were awarded tickets.

Thousands of children joined celebrities and the first family for the Easter tradition. Dating back to 1878, the egg roll involves pushing eggs across the grass with wooden spoons.

This year’s theme is “Let’s Go, Let’s Play, Let’s Move.” In addition to the egg roll, events will include games, stories and cooking demos. In 2011, the activities included yoga and a performance by singer Willow Smith.
