White Christmas Lyrics

White Christmas Lyrics, ”I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know”. A small snippet of the lyrics for White Christmas, written by Irving Berlin in 1942 that originally featured in the movie Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby. Irvin had good reason for writing those lyrics that year. Why? Well, between the years of 1937-42 there was a lot of snow during the Christmas period, with numerous falls of 1-2ft and occasional falls (between 1940-41) in which snow depths of up to 16 foot (drifts) were recorded. The worst affected places by these snowy winters were Scotland and Northern England, but the south was also quite badly hit, especially for the south west of England and Wales. However during 1942-43 the snowy period ended with very little snow recorded, which perhaps resulted in Irvin writing the song, ”A White Christmas”.

Anyway, let’s fast forward to the present year of 2011. Will it be a year of snow or just dreaming? Well to put it bluntly, you can dream on as this year a white Christmas doesn’t look likely to happen!

The rest of this week will be milder than recent days. Temperatures will be around the seasonal average or a little above in some places. In other words a green and possibly rainy Christmas rather than a white one.

Today (Tuesday) see’s that change in the milder conditions as a warm front heads in from the Atlantic. This will bring rain to all parts as it moves eastwards but more importantly a mild air flow from the west. The westerly winds also mean a lot of cloud so for Wednesday it will be generally overcast, particularly so in Ireland, Wales, western Scotland and western England but there will be some bright spells further east.
