2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback, The Nissan Versa has been an anomaly in the market for low-cost car, not all fuel consumption without sacrificing space, and smooth-riding, and well-finished interior. Versa sedan redesign of 2012 (the hatchback remains unchanged for now) goes in a different direction.

One of the key priorities was for engineering Nissan Versa maintains livability while improving your fuel economy. Compared to the last one I tested, our 2012 test car weighs an incredible 250 pounds less. The former top-level 1.8-liter four-cylinder is gone, the entire Versa sedan now uses a 1.6-liter unit. The four-speed automatic transmission lines in the lower court Versa also died, all machines are continuously variable transmissions Versa. (A manual is available only in trim level of the base S, and it is worth noting that actually has the lowest numbers of the EPA that the CVT).

EPA ratings for the CVT version are now 30-mpg city, 38-mpg highway. This is shy of the magic 40 mpg Highway competitors are going through, but it’s a big jump from the previous verse, which only managed 25 / 33 with four-speed automatic gearbox.

Nissan worked to hold the line on prices while adding content. The Versa now starts at 11,750 and includes features such as antilock brakes, stability control, air conditioning and material than the previous super-cheapo Versa missing. Moving up the scale, which bought a Versa sedan 1.6SV that self-adhesive floor and an impressive 15,490. Compare this with our last Versa sedan costing 1.8s, 2009 16,130 and optional power windows / locks and ABS.

All these achievements are impressive … at least on paper. But first impressions indicate that Nissan could have zigged while competitors have zag. The Versa is still large for the class, but the surprising plushness the old model is gone. Now he feels efficient, but rather with hard edges and harsh. The other problem is that the end of 2012 redesigned competitors like the Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and the fall of the arrival of Sonic Chevrolet are raising the bar of expectations in this segment. It aims to be fuel efficient and stylish, making them more comfortable (but also slightly more expensive) than the basic Versa.
