Groundhog Day 2012, It’s less than 24 hours before D.C.’s inaugural Groundhog Day celebration in Dupont Circle, and while stuffed groundhog “Potomac Phil” is on hand to assist with winter predictions, organizers want you to know they’re still holding auditions for a [living] local Punxsutawney Phil.

Aaron DeNu, one of the founders of the group Dupont Festival, told WTOP that they’d checked with the National Zoo, but none were available.

“They have prairie dogs, but that’s not necessarily something that we’re looking for. We’re looking for the groundhog,” DeNu told Michelle Basch.

So, if you’re secretly hoarding groundhogs in your English basement, let Dupont Festival know. Or something. The fun starts at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
