Elsewhere, rookie Paul Goldschmidt Arizona opened a grand slam and tied a franchise playoff-record with five RBIs and the Arizona Diamondbacks Milwaukee Brewers hammered 8-1 to reduce their deficit to 2-1 in the series first round.

Beltre, one of his 11 in the plate in the playoffs before today, became the sixth player to hit three homers in the same game playoff baseball.

Texas leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler hit a solo homer in the first inning and Beltre followed with another to start the second inning for the Rangers, the two attacks in Tampa Bay starter Jeremy Hellickson to give Texas a 2-0 lead.

Tampa Bay Matt Joyce doubled in Rodriguez, who hit the ball from the hands of Texas, catcher Mike Napoli in a collision at home plate with two outs in the second to take a turn for the Rays.

But Beltre Hellickson criticized another homer in the fourth to put the Rangers on top 3-1.

The Rays moved to 3-2 in the fourth, when Rodriguez scored again, this time in a single Kotchman.

Beltre struck again in the seventh inning, breaking another round burst of lightning reliever Matt Moore to push the Rangers lead to 4-2.

Beltre homer that lifted the story along with Kennedy, George Brett, Reggie Jackson, Bob Robertson and Babe Ruth, who hit three home runs in World Series game the same in both 1926 and 1928.

The two-time All-Star Granderson had an RBI double for the Yankees, who recorded 13 hits, including seven singles in the eighth inning.

Derek Jeter put the Yankees ahead to stay with a two-run double in the third inning. Jeter bounced back from a difficult start in a game of three losses struck out to end the contest yesterday.

“We wanted to go out and score first. With the exception of the eighth inning, this was a close game,”Jeter said.
