Washington MonumentWashington Monument, No major structural damage reported in Washington DC monuments, the U.S. Park Police said shortly after magnitude 5.9 earthquakes shook the eastern coast.

U.S. Parks Police spokesman David Schlosser said there were no serious injuries or damage reported in the many monuments in the nation’s capital. Schlosser said the TheDC monuments might remain closed until the engineering teams can examine them.

An early rumor that the Washington Monument may have inclined to the earthquake has not been confirmed. A helicopter of the U.S. Park Police was to photograph the memorial this afternoon to see if there is structural damage.

According to reports, the earthquake damaged the needles of the Washington National Cathedral, whose construction began in 1907. DC Metro stations are open, but trains run 15 miles per hour.
