Mary Kay Letourneau:Some family traditions and heritages are best left behind; something Mary Katherine Schmitz should have learned when her father John Schmitz lost his career as a politician as a result of his teacher-student sex scandal. However that wasn’t to be the case and in 1997 she was found guilty of raping a male student of hers. The boy, Vili Fualaau, was a naïve 13 year old then while Mary Kay was a modest lady well into her mid 30’s.

Mary Kay Letourneau, already a mother of 4 children, was divorced by her first husband Steve Letourneau in 1999 after a union of 15 years. The divorce was filed after Steve got hold of written correspondence shared between his wife and her (then) underage lover. But as things would turn out, Mary Kay and young Vili got married in 2005 following her divorce and serving prison time.

Although she was convicted, found guilty and sentenced to a prison term of almost seven and a half years in ‘97, Mary Kay Letourneau was released only 6 months later in early 1998 as a result of her good behavior. However the law required her to join a 3 year sex offender treatment curriculum and, more importantly, stay away from her ex lover. She was returned to prison when both she and Vili were found in a car by the police.

Upon her release in mid of ‘04, Mary Kay and Vili got married a year later. The couple now resides in the Seattle suburbs with their two daughters – Audrey and Georgia.
