Oregon Coast Surfing, There’s a secret in Oregon that local surfers don’t want you to know. Hawaii may have the pristine beaches but Oregon has waves that are irresistible for all surfers from novice to expert.

Before you head West check out the conditions at these wave watch sites: www.surfline.com and www.oceanweather.com. Next, hook your boards onto your Subie and hit Highway 26 West straight to Seaside about 75 miles from Portland. What? No gear? Your first stop is Seaside Surf Shop, (www.seasidesurfshop.com, 1116 S Roosevelt Dr.(503) 717-1110) where they have all the gear you need to rent or buy. Closer to the beach you’ll find Cleanline Surf (www.cleanlinesurf.com, 719 1st Ave, (503) 738-7888) and after that it’s time to hit the water!

Novice surfers will want to stay on the beach in the middle of town where there is a lifeguard on duty during the summer months. Watch out for that undertow! It’s known to be tough and has pulled many a surfer out to sea. If the waves aren’t nukin’ you can always hit the promenade and get an elephant ear, stroll through the many shops, learn about the Lewis and Clark expedition, or play a game of miniature golf.

Expert surfers will surely enjoy the wake a little farther South at “the point”. Truly for experts only, the rocks off the point have injured even the most accomplished surfers. This is the place world-renowned by professionals but kept low profile so they can enjoy the beautiful tubes that break off the point in relative peace. You’ll want to stay forever, and Hawaii will become a distant memory after visiting the point.

Travel South on Hwy 101 from Seaside a mere fifteen miles and you’ll arrive at another hot Oregon surf spot called Indian Beach. Indian Beach is on the South end of a small town named Cannon Beach nestled within Ecola State Park. Full amenities are available if you choose to spend the night and turn a short surf trip into a little longer one. Indian Beach is perfect for the novice to moderately skilled surfer and the view is breath taking. There is a surf shop in Cannon Beach (Cannon Beach Surf Shop, www.cannonbeachsurf.com, 1088 S Hemlock, (503) 436-0475) that offers everything you need including lessons. Cannon Beach Surf shop also has surf camps for all levels and one especially for women.

A surf vacation in Oregon wouldn’t be complete without stopping at Short Sand Beach. This Oregon gem is hidden within the old growth forest encompassing Oswald West State Park just 10 miles South of Cannon Beach. This location truly should be included in one of the Seven Wonders of the World with towering old growth trees covered in moss lining a gravel pathway leading toward the beach. After a long and winding journey down the path along a babbling brook, the most seasoned surfer might be a little weary but will be invigorated once again when the trees open up revealing a cove with a break to the South that is ideal for experts. The more novice to intermediate surfer will be satisfied with the waves generated at mid-shore and feel secure seeing other’s at all skill levels within close reach. Short Sand is frequented year-round by many surfers and was used for filming the final scene in the Patrick Swayze/Keanu Reeves classic surf flick “Point Break”.

There you have it! The secret is out. So, save your money on airfare and check out the Oregon coast. Year-round, for all skill levels, it won’t disappoint.

Rod Blagojevich Dyed Hair Gray In Prison, Rod Blagojevich’s barber says the former Illinois governor’s famously thick, dark hair is dyed and will turn gray within the first months of his prison term.

Peter Vodovoz has been Blagojevich’s barber for more than two decades. Vodovoz said Wednesday that the 55-year-old Blagojevich has dyed his hair for years.

Blagojevich reported to a Colorado federal prison last week to begin serving a 14-year sentence for corruption. A prison spokesman says hair dye is banned because inmates could use it to change their appearances in escape attempts.

Vodovoz says Blagojevich’s dark-brown dye will fade quickly, and he could be as gray as talk show host Jay Leno within three months.

When he was governor, Blagojevich was so obsessive about his hair he had a security official carry a brush.

Mysterious Object Fell Sky, Reportedly, a mystery object (UFO) fell from the sky over a Connecticut. However after news of the sighting by a civilian and state trooper, a search party was not able to find the “thing.” Is it part of a Friday the 13th superstition?

Citing a 4/12/12 report from the Miami Herald, an unnamed person made an emergency call and reported seeing something strange in the sky.

While driving in Litchfield, Connecticut, at approximately 2 a.m., the witness observed seeing a rather large and glowing object (about the size of a whale). Moments later, the mysterious object fell from the sky and crashed into Bantam Lake in the area.

Additionally, the report says that when the first call of a UFO sighting came in, news of another large object flying through the sky was reported by a state trooper in Warren, about 10 miles away from Litchfield.

Strangely, firefighters called to the scene reported not finding any evidence of a huge and glowing mystery object that had fallen from the night sky. Initially, they searched for signs of a plane crash, to no avail.

Billionaire Female Media Mogul

Billionaire Female Media Mogul, With a media career spanning almost 30 years, Oprah Winfrey is still one of the world’s most influential women. She has been ranked the richest African American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was for a time the world’s only black billionaire.

Oprah Winfrey (born Orpah Gail Winfrey; January 29, 1954) is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist. Winfrey is best known for her self-titled, multi-award-winning talk show, which has become the highest-rated program of its kind in history and was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011. She has been ranked the richest African American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and was for a time the world’s only black billionaire. She is also, according to some assessments, the most influential woman in the world.

Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She experienced considerable hardship during her childhood, claiming to be raped at age nine and becoming pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy.

Sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, Winfrey landed a job in radio while still in high school and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19. Her emotional ad-lib delivery eventually got her transferred to the daytime-talk-show arena, and after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place, she launched her own production company and became internationally syndicated.

Credited with creating a more intimate confessional form of media communication, she is thought to have popularized and revolutionized the tabloid talk show genre pioneered by Phil Donahue, which a Yale study claims broke 20th century taboos and allowed LGBT people to enter the mainstream. By the mid 1990s, she had reinvented her show with a focus on literature, self-improvement, and spirituality. Though criticized for unleashing confession culture, promoting controversial self-help ideas, and an emotion-centered approach she is often praised for overcoming adversity to become a benefactor to others. From 2006 to 2008, her support of Barack Obama, by one estimate, delivered over a million votes in the close 2008 Democratic primary race.

Passers By Icy Crash

Passers By Icy Crash, At least ten good Samaritans leaped into an icy Utah river to rescue three children trapped in a car that had careened off a road. A defense contractor used a handgun to shoot out a car window and cut a seat belt to help free the kids.

The driver had lost control of as he tried to brake around a curve next to the Logan River. He escaped, but his daughter, 9, his 4-year-old son and another girl were trapped as the Honda Accord began sinking. “He was panicked, doing everything he could to get in through the doors, but they wouldn’t budge,” one rescuer told AP.

The defense contractor reached through the shot-out window, searching for arms and legs, but felt nothing. “I remember thinking to myself, `You’re going to see some dead kids, get ready,'” he said. “I’ve got three of my own and it was going to be an awful start to the New Year.”

But other passers-by plunged in and up-righted the car and pulled the children out. The boy was no longer breathing, but was revived by bystanders. “Emotions started taking over when he started to breathe,” said one. “Everybody started to cheer. Lots of tears and clapping.” All the children were doing well yesterday.
