United Nations DayUnited Nations Day, To date the United Nations or the UN will become 67 years old. “United Nations” The term was first coined by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942, when a group of 26 nations pledged to continue fighting together the Axis powers of Germany, Japan and Italy. The UN began to take shape when the June 26, 1945, representatives of 50 Member States signed the United Nations Charter.

Poland also signed the Charter was to become one of the first 51 Member States. And when the October 24, 1945, China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States ratified the Charter, the United Nations was officially born.

Even before this, an entity called the League of Nations was formed after World War I in 1919 with the aim of promoting international cooperation and peace and security, so that a new world war is preventable. But that was not going to be and World War II broke our training requires an international body more effective.

The United Nations was created with four objectives in mind network, ie
To keep peace throughout the world, to develop friendly relations among nations;
To help nations work together to improve the lives of the poor,
to overcome hunger, disease and illiteracy, and
to encourage respect for other rights and freedoms;
To be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these objectives.

Policies and programs that fall within the scope of this framework is deliberated, discussed and recorded in the General Assembly, which currently consists of 193 member states.

The Assembly has regular meetings from September to December each year, as long as necessary. The General Assembly approves the budget of the Organization and decisions on important matters are taken by majority of two thirds of the Assembly.

Another important body is the UN Security Council is permanent members China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States and ten non-permanent members for a period of two years. The Security Council has the primary responsibility of the responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.

It is mandatory for each member of the United Nations to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council, in accordance with this Charter. Besides these two, other United Nations bodies are the Economic and Social Council, a Trusteeship Council, an International Court of Justice and a Secretariat.

One of the most important activities of the United Nations is the maintenance of international peace and security resolutions and conflict. Since its inception in 1945, the UN has helped stop many regional conflicts, leading to the peace agreements in 170 cases.

The conflicts taking place worldwide in recent years the peacekeeping operation has become one of the most important activities of the UN. So far it has launched these operations in places as diverse as Somalia, Haiti, Cambodia, Israel, Lebanon, Afghanistan.

In February 2009, there have been 63 peacekeeping operations the UN since 1948, with sixteen operations ongoing, from the Organization of the United Nations Truce Supervision of the newly created state of Israel.

Although the peacekeepers have helped to contain a flammable many situations at the cost of their lives, has recently been allegations of some peacekeepers being involved in the rape and sexual abuse of children.

This is really unfortunate and competent authorities should take this issue seriously. In addition, peacekeeping, the United Nations to help the victims of the conflict, refugees, providing humanitarian aid and rehabilitation. He is also involved in the fight against poverty, access to livelihoods to people, education, preservation of cultural heritage and in many other areas.

In recent times, there is a call for reform of the United Nations, to which representatives of more, especially in the composition of the Security Council. The movement organized by India, Japan, Brazil and South Africa for inclusion as permanent members of the Security Council in view of its growing economic clout deserved serious consideration.

For too long, the ‘Big Five’ has decided the fate of the world using its veto power to frustrate the aspirations of most people on this planet is exemplified most starkly by the United States use that to protect Israel on several occasions.
