Undercover Boss Episodes, TTC Chairman Karen Stintz will be featured on the television show Undercover Boss Canada, where she gets a first-hand look at how the country’s largest transit system stays on track.

The show — which airs Thursday at 9 p.m. on W Network — starts out with a history of Stintz’s life.

The TTC boss says on the show that her mother developed mental health problems when she was four and adds: “Often times my mom wouldn’t be able to cook dinner.

“I would have to figure out at a very young age how I was going to manage.”

By the time she was 10, Stintz’s mother could no longer raise her.

“My father was very good,” she recalls.

The show changes track, offering a glimpse of her home life with her husband of 15 years and their two children.

Before going undercover as Ruth, Stintz checks into a budget hotel with a wig, glasses and a nose ring.

“There are many things I hope to discover by going undercover,” Stintz explains. “What kind of cuts are possible without hurting customer service.”

Her first undercover job was being trained to drive a subway.

“I’m a little nervous about it…if you make a mistake the consequences could be deadly,” says Stintz, who experiences difficulty while learning to stop the train.

Amy, who was training Stintz to drive the subway said the worst day of her career was when a suicide jumper killed himself in front of her train.

“The worst thing was when I made eye contact,” Amy said.

Stintz also trained on how to keep a subway station clean with Sylva.

“It is frustrating when people throw things on the floor,” Sylvia says.

When it came to cleaning and fuelling the buses, Stintz had trouble keeping up with Carman, her trainer.

Carman — who wants to go back to school so she can become a manager — works the night shift so she can look after sick and older relatives during the day.

After the undercover operation, Stintz had the TTC employees come to head office where she revealed that she was Ruth. Stintz was so pleased, the workers got gifts.

Carman received a scholarship to York University, Sylvia a trip to Newfoundland to see her sister and Amy got a family trip to New York City.

Stintz has recently found herself at odds with Mayor Rob Ford, successfully winning city council support for her light-rail transit expansion plan. Ford was pushing a transit plan that included extending the Sheppard subway line.
