The American Red Cross, perhaps best known for its blood drives, is always in need of assistance.

And the local chapter of the organization is asking area residents and restaurants to participate on Wednesday. But this time, the needles are not necessary – just an adventurous palate, a healthy appetite and a few dollars.

Third annual Taste of income Morgantown, from 6-9 pm at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center.

“This is our meeting in which we expect each year,” said Jodi Gallo, executive director of the American Red Cross River Valley Chapter, in an e-mail. “It’s great to see everyone Morgantown city’s best restaurants come together to support the American Red Cross.”

The fundraiser offers the community an opportunity to test a wide variety of articles from more than 20 restaurants in the area. And the theme of this year, “Local Life,” says the city has to offer, from the kitchen to Kenya Farmfresh organic fare.

All proceeds to benefit the River Valley chapter, which offers “everything from disaster relief services for blood” to 12 counties in West Virginia and Ohio.

The event also helps participating restaurants.

“We decided for the first time last year,” said Denis Gekara, owner of Kenyan coffee in Chelsea Square, which offers a variety of traditional foods from the African country, including vegetarian and gluten free options.

“People liked [our] food, and now we have a lot of regular customers,” he said. “We look forward to participating again.”
