Tyson Chandler, NBA.com writer David Aldridge is reporting Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks have acquired forward Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers after sending Tyson Chandler to the New York Knicks yesterday.

The sign and trade deal that sent Chandler to the Knicks gave the Mavericks an $11 million trade exception which was used to acquire Odom. This comes as a shock to many fans after the Hornets, Lakers and Rockets were in talks for a trade sending Chris Paul to L.A., Pau Gasol to the Rockets and Kevin Martin to the Hornets.

Odom will earn $8.9 million this year with the Mavs with an $8.2 million team option for 2012-2013 in which only $2.4 million is guaranteed. This also helps the Lakers clear cap room in case they decide to go after the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard when he becomes a free agent next year if they don’t make a trade for him with Bynum or Gasol.

The Dallas Mavericks are also in talks with Vince Carter. He should be arriving sometime in Dallas later today to finalize a deal that would put the 34-year old leaper in a Mavs uniform for the 2011-2012 season.
