Turkey earthquakeTurkey earthquake, Rescue teams in eastern Turkey are working furiously to get more survivors among the rubble of dozens of collapsed buildings after an earthquake in which at least 279 people died and hundreds of others injured or trapped.

There was a growing concern for tens of thousands of people forced to spend the night outdoors in near-freezing temperatures in the mountainous region of Van, as their damaged houses were shaken by a series of aftershocks.

“It’s very urgent,” said Hakki Erskoy, a manager of disaster for the Turkish Red Crescent, adding that his organization was dealing with 40,000 people homeless, adding. “Right now, we face a race against time to provide shelter to people.”
