Tropical Storm MariaTropical Storm Maria, Location: 13.5 north, 48.2 west  About 940 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands  Maximum sustained winds: 50 mph This movement on the west or 275 DEGREES AT 23 mph  Minimum central pressure: 1002 MB or 29.59 inches of mercury  A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Leeward Islands of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis and St. Kitts.

A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.

The interests of other parts of the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of Mary.

At 5:00 am the center of Tropical Storm Maria is located near latitude 13.5 north, longitude 48.2 west. Marie is moving westward near 23 mph. This general motion is expected to continue today, followed by a gradual turn toward the west-northwest and a decrease in forward speed on Friday. The center of Mary approached the Leeward Islands Friday or Friday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected over the next 48 hours. A unit of the Air Force Reserve is scheduled HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT Maria to investigate later today.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center.

Estimated minimum central pressure of 1002 MB is, or 29.59 inches of mercury.

Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area late Friday or Saturday.
