Tour De France, Court finds Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador guilty of doping, imposes two year ban and strips him of the 2010 Tour de France title. Three-times Tour de France winner Alberto Contador of Spain has been banned for two years by Court of Arbitration for Sport for a doping offence at the 2010 Tour.

The CAS said overnight that Contador will be stripped of the 2010 Tour title, that from the 2011 Giro d’Italia and other events. With the ban running until August 5, Contador will also miss the Olympic races in London.

The CAS said it will rule at a later stage on a request from the ruling cycling body UCI to fine Contador at least 2.485 million euros ($A3.05 million).

Contador, 29, did not comment but his brother and agent Francisco Contador told Spanish media he would not end his career, despite earlier threats.

“Alberto is clear about that, and he will not quit cycling,” Francisco was quoted by the website of Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

Spanish cycling supremo Juan Carlos Castano said in a telephone interview that he had spoken to Alberto.

“He appeared calm in principle, but was obviously annoyed by this resolution, given that something this strong had not been expected,” said Castano.
