Touchback Movie, So the pre-release hype for “Touchback” isn’t quite in the same league as, say, “The Hunger Games.” But West Michiganders, at least, are interested in seeing the Coopersville-shot movie starring Kurt Russell and Brian Presley, which will debut in local theaters April 20 (after it premieres in larger markets April 13).

A premiere event at Celebration Cinema North is in the works for an as-yet-undetermined date prior to April 20. It will likely benefit the West Michigan Film Office.

The film has also been rated PG-13 for “some mature thematic elements.”

Distributor Anchor Bay recently released a new trailer (watch it below) and one-sheet poster for the movie. The former features many shots of Coopersville High School and its football stadium, and a glimpse of Pal’s Diner in Grand Rapids. And the first voice you hear is local radio personality Bill “Huge” Simonson, who has a role as the announcer, with reportedly 100 lines of dialogue.

“Touchback” shot for a few weeks in the summer of 2010. Several football players from the area were extras in the movie. Barry Sanders also has a cameo appearance.

The synopsis from the film’s official website reads, “Former high school football star turned farmer and family man, Scott Murphy (Brian Presley) finds himself with a unique opportunity to revisit his glory days during the Ohio State championship game where he permanently injured his knee in a game-winning play. Given a second shot at his destiny, Scott seeks counsel from Coach Hand (Kurt Russell), Scott’s longtime mentor on and off the field, to help him decide whether to let his fate unfold, or follow a path that will change his future.”
