Torchwood Miracle DayTorchwood Miracle Day, Torchwood: Day Miracle, the 10-episode series that premiered Friday night, is a sometimes witty, often successful attempt to introduce American-style settings of the successful British series. The premise is that one day, everyone, no one dies more – no matter how sick or injured. Oh, except for the immortal Jack Harkness (John Barrowman Star) – suddenly can cause harm, and perhaps expires. The title of “miracle” is quickly recognized as a curse: if he dies, and the increase in population, soon there will be enough food for the entire planet, patients remain ill, suffering, suffering … The research team Torchwood – now mainly to Harkness and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) – to the rescue!

Mekhi Phifer as a CIA agent, who worked with Torchwood, is much looser and more open than has been before. Among the many pleasures here is a superb performance by Bill Pullman chilling, as the Danes Oswald, a celebrity pedophile-murderer. In addition, guest artists such as Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) and Wayne Knight, Newman beyond Seinfeld with sleek villainy.

Juggle the issues of hunger, fame and family, Torchwood: Day Miracle – conceived by series creator Russell T Davies, with some episodes written by Buffy and Jane Espenson Warehouse 13 vet, makes a transatlantic exchange, which I hope extend this wonderful fantasy, the audience tense. The transition is somewhat uneven. Seeing Gwen, with her combination of intelligence, skepticism and sarcasm, in contrast with her counterpart here, a CIA analyst played with enthusiasm by Alexa Havins prim, you realize how rare a major premise of science fiction is played for laughs in the United States occasionally.

To me, that is – small, but significant – why shows like heroes and the occurrence of sputtering and not: They leave no room for humor, an aknowledgment the absurd. Of course, people who do not have the original Torchwood or doctor could say the opposite is true: It shows that Brit can be reduced to mere nonsense at times when a fan who wants more furrowed brow gravity.

One of the themes of the series – more of a workhorse that Davies wants to ride hard – is the idea that the world should be subject to lack of healthcare and the greed of big pharma. I do not mean much right after the premiere, since it touches on a miracle day to be more frequent and richer as the series progresses. For now, you just want to hang onto him if they were intrigued by the first delivery, and if this is not the Torchwood you expected, at least, I think you get to think in the coming weeks, it gets better.
