Tim Tebow Denver BroncosTim Tebow Denver Broncos, Tim Tebow was a freshman with a funny haircut a year ago, his toga parties bald on display throughout the Internet.

Tebow trend again, but not by their appearance. The quarterback said Friday he felt his comments to a newspaper columnist were misunderstood and insisted he wants to win the starting job with the Denver Broncos.

“I have no desire for anything was taken away from me, and I do not want anything given,” he said. “I want to work for anything I do, that’s for sure. And I’ve always been.”

The former Florida star caused a stir when he told The Denver Post columnist Woody Paige the felt his childhood dream of being a starting quarterback in the NFL seemed imminent after “grabbed back.”

The present incumbent Kyle Orton has been taking all the first team snaps at camp. Tebow has been a leader in most of the works of the second team, but Brady Quinn in rotation with Thursday and Friday.

New coach John Fox and team executives have always repeated the same message for months when he reached the position of quarterback: Orton was atop the depth chart, but it would be a competition.

Suddenly there was a wrinkle when the Broncos held trade talks with the Miami Dolphins of Orton on the eve of camp. But since we went anywhere that deal, Orton has clearly Tebow and Quinn.

Tebow, meanwhile, said there has been no indication that the team was his job.

“Of course not, and never have said anything to me that way at all,” he said. “All the time was:” Come and compete, and that’s what he wants, that’s what I enjoy doing. ”

But Tebow may be a competition for second place now, after Quinn sets backup of the division in the last two days.

“We’re evaluating,” Fox said Quinn. “This is our eighth day ever as a team, so we’re getting to know the players and the players are beginning to understand. Brady deserves a chance, and we’ll see what we have.”

Tebow is still very popular with the fans screaming for him every day. And he did not feel he needed to address his teammates about his comments in the newspaper.

“No, actually,” he said. “Because I think everyone here knows exactly how I am, my character, what they represent, how am I going to work, so I really did not feel that way and nobody told me anything about it was negative.”

AWOL FINNEGAN: Tennessee general manager Mike Reinfeldt said the Titans were totally surprised by cornerback Cortland Finnegan’s decision to leave the camp given his agent had sent a counteroffer to consider during negotiations to extend his contract.

Finnegan left the camp on Friday night, apparently, just hours after his agent, Terry Watson, sent the Titans a counter offer for a contract extension. The Titans learned Finnegan was gone when he said yesterday morning at a meeting of special equipment.

“We tried to call it,” Reinfeldt said yesterday after a team practice at LP Field. “We have not been able to contact him. It is a difficult situation. We have 23 boys in the last year of his contract. I talked to Cortland during the week. Coach” Mike “Munchak did. … We were absolutely surprised that he turned and left the camp. ”

Running back Chris Johnson has to report to training camp, holding a new contract, too. But Johnson has led the NFL in rushing yards since being drafted No. 24 overall in 2008 and is scheduled to make and 850,000 this season.

BACK Garrard remains a problem: Jaguars quarterback David Garrard has dealt with back pain before. It forced him to miss some practice time last season and even pose problems during training this summer.

His last fight has shelved indefinitely.

Pain in the back of Garrard kept him out of the line of scrimmage in Jacksonville yesterday, allowing more repetitions of the first round Blaine Gabbert and third quarterback Luke McCown. But it also caused some concern about the Jaguars approach their first preseason game.

“I’m pretty sure everyone wants to see” Gabbert “anyway,” Garrard said laughing.

Turf War: Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher Chicago made clear yesterday how they felt about the condition of the weeds at Soldier Field that forced the cancellation of practice last night there.

“It’s a joke,” Urlacher said. “I do not understand why you can not have the field ready.”

The “Family Fest” practice in the stadium was canceled due to dry grass. Chicago Park District officials do not put enough water in 3 ½ weeks old, grass, making the seams of the buckle. It is the first edition with the Soldier Field turf, but most of the problems that have been in November and December. Urlacher urged the team to go to an artificial surface.

“I do not understand why they have not yet FieldTurf,” said Urlacher. “We’re a fast team. We play fast on FieldTurf.”

MASON jet SIGNS: Derrick Mason will meet with Rex Ryan, this time with the Jets in New York.

Ravens wide receiver, wide ex announced yesterday that it signed with the Jets, adding impetus to the receiving corps in New York.

Mason, 37, fills the void created when the Jets gave Jerricho Cotchery’s request to be released. Mason spent his first eight seasons with the Tennessee franchise before playing the last six years with Baltimore. He knows Ryan from his days with the Ravens, when the coach was the defensive coordinator.

SIGN 49ers Whitner, Donte Whitner stepped on the field for the first time with the 49ers yesterday, welcoming the responsibility that comes with their new security role more experienced and higher paid team.

Whitner officially signed his three years with San Francisco earlier in the day, giving the 49ers a veteran leader in the refurbished school and a missing piece in the 3-4 schemes being implemented by new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio

Whitner signed a deal reportedly worth and 11.75 million and 4 million guaranteed. He chose the 49ers over the Cincinnati Bengals, who said Whitner offered a similar contract.

NOT SO HORRIBLE BOSS: free agent tight end Kevin Boss and signed a $ 16 million, four-year contract with the Raiders on Friday.
