Spermine Skin Science Bio Active Eye Contour Complex, Always excited to hear about new kids on the beauty block, the news about Norwegian brand Skin Science had me chomping at the bit to try their wares.

Claiming to go beyond anti-ageing into ‘age-management’ (nice), the 6 products in the Skin Science range are allegedly proven to delay skin ageing by 20% through the use of a handful of potent, clinically proven ingredients inspired by the marine life found along Norway’s Arctic coastline. Fascinating.

I have been using the Skin Science Bio Active Eye Contour Complex (RRP £75) twice daily, for the past week. This 15ml tube with a pump dispenser uses ‘Quicklift’ (TM), a ‘non-sticky compound that creates an invisible network of sugars to tighten the skin’, giving a firming effect over the course of about 2 hours, and Spermine (TM), apparently ‘nature’s most powerful antioxidant’, estimated to be 25-30 times more potent than Vitamin E. The clever chaps and chapettes at Skin Science have created a laboratory version of this natural compound which serves to protect the skin from UV rays, pollution and free radicals. End result – a whopping 20% delay in skin ageing. Marvellous.

I was impressed after an initial assessment of the outer packaging – nice box, no-nosence science-y presentation. However, I was less impressed by the look of the product tube itself – it feels a bit cheap and plastic-y. £75 is a relatively premium price point for an eye cream, and as such I would expect the entire ‘package’ to be in line with this positioning.

The product claims to absorb after 45 seconds, de-puffing and ridding of persistent dark circles. It applies smoothly and absorbs quickly, leaving an almost visible ‘shiny-tightening layer’ that disappears after a while. After each use I can’t say I noticed staggering results.

However… As the Mother of a sleep-proof toddler I have some serious eye-baggage. Not so much puffiness, but more the dark hollows of the seriously sleep-deprived. Now, while assessing the effectiveness of this product last night I consulted my other half to see if he could notice any improvement and, low and behold, he said he thought my dark circles had subsided (I think ‘receded’ was the word her used – sort of disappeared up towards the tear duct) – quite a lot! I had actually thought the same thing, but it is a hard factor to judge.

Naturally, if this little tube is helping to make my dark circles diminish, I will be using it religiously from now on. Obviously, an improvement in eye beauty could be attributed to all sorts of factors, but since I know I haven’t been getting any extra sleep, I’ll be hedging my bets here.

We Love: The fact that this product may actually be making our dark eye circles disappear!

Not Crazy About: Cheap-feel plastic packaging. The way it squirts about a metre in the air, usually hitting the bathroom wall upon every first pump, no matter how you store the tube (on its side, on its end).
