Hell On Wheels

Hell On Wheels, Spoiler alert! If you haven’t watched Hell on Wheels‘ season 3 premiere, stop reading now. Anson Mount spoke with EW about a scene likely to have fans talking…

In the two-hour return of the AMC Western, Cullen Bohannon (Mount), the new chief engineer of the Union Pacific Railroad, tried to convince a Mormon family to peacefully vacate its land, which his tracks were set to cross. After agreeing to a survey to determine if the tracks could go around the property instead, Bohannon — a widower whose new love interest, Lily Bell (Dominique McElligott), was killed in the season 2 finale — was invited to spend the night at the family’s home. He ended up in the barn with a daughter (who looked like a teen, but was actually played by a 23-year-old actress, according to Mount).

“The network almost made us cut that [sex] scene out, and we fought for it to stay in,” Mount says. “I’m not interested in pure, untainted heroes, just like I’m not that interested in strength. I’m interested in weakness, and I’m interested in what makes somebody human. Just because somebody’s had their heart broken doesn’t mean that they don’t get a hard on every now and then. Okay. It’s just realistic. He’s out there alone. The only thing he’s seen is whores, and half of ‘em have syphilis. What’s he gonna do?”

The scene also, however, speaks to Bohannon’s ambition and priorities. After the survey determined the tracks must go through the family’s land, Bohannon sent his new Chief of Police with Elam (Common) to deliver the news. The chief was shot and killed by someone unseen. When Bohannon returned with soldiers to the home, the father claimed it was his son who’d fired, and the son didn’t contradict him (despite Bohannon’s encouragement). “The reason the sex is so important in that scene is that he has to hang her brother the next day,” Mount says, “and he doesn’t even question it. He has to get on with the railroad. The law is the law. It makes the killing of that boy much more difficult, but he does it. We also had a scene in that episode in which I was reading to her little sister before she went to bed. We didn’t have room for it, unfortunately, but that’s the kind of stuff that we were trying to set up to make that ending so much more difficult.”

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead, This week’s return of The Walking Dead hit the reset button, and hopefully will be the beginning of a fresh start for the show, which bogged down a bit in the first half of the season with farm drama and the neverending search for Sophia.

We pick up where we left off a couple of months ago. Rick put a bullet in Sophia’s head, which instantly upped his leadership cred. After the barn massacre is over, Beth rushes up to her zombie mother, who isn’t quite twice-dead yet, and who tries to take a bite out of her daughter (or maybe just complain about her lipstick.

You know how dead mothers are). Andrea, of all people, comes to the rescue with a well-placed scythe swing. And I just want to go on record as saying how freakin’ awesome and underutilized the scythe is as a weapon, even in the hands of The Dim Reaperâ

The Walking Dead Episode 1

The Walking Dead Episode 1, Advertising men of the ghosts of intelligence for patients with cancer of cooking methods, AMC has a propensity to develop shows about many different topics. With “The Walking Dead”, which premiered earlier this evening, the cable channel can now be added to the list of zombies.

Adapted from the compelling, if bleak graphic novel by Robert Kirkman, the undead drama stars Andrew Lincoln (also known as the British Login happy she is in love with Keira Knightley in “Love, Actually”) as Rick Grimes a small-town sheriff. In an opening scene-setting tone, Rick see what looks like a girl walking down the dirty shoes. Except, of course, she’s not a girl, she is a zombie. He shoots him in the head.

We have a decline in happier times no zombie. Rick and his partner Shane Walsh complain about the women in his life when they are called in the security measure during a shoot (is it just me, or all of these police shootings too bad considering how close it is parked in Criminals?). Rick is beaten and collapses on the screen fades to black and get confused images of Shane comes to visit in the hospital with flowers.

Rick finally awakens from his coma, and said aloud by a nurse is not there. He makes his way through a dirty hospital corridor full of bullet holes, until it finds a set of closed doors with the words “Do Not Open – Dead Inside” printed on it – what the long white fingers reaching Rick even more jarring. In a sequence of time, the representative of the law runs to the stairs and exit the building, only to find a heap of others dead, a swarm of flies. Making his way up the adjacent hill, is a helicopter and military equipment left scattered, which raises the question: What has happened? Zombies, that’s what – the undead bodies going forward, even if, for example, its entire bottom halves have started and are just a torso by pulling them across the floor.

After searching the home for traces of his wife Lori and son Carl, Rick is beaten in the head by a young African-American, whose father wants to know where the wound is Rick. (The zombies, you see, infect humans by biting them.) After Rick explained that he had been in a hospital in a coma, father and son – and Duane Morgan – gradually begin to trust Rick and brief him on apocalyptic scene around them.

Back home, Rick realizes that his wife should have escaped, for all your photo albums have been (Morgan, whose wife is now a zombie, you agree that this was a very feminine thing to do) , and made plans to go to Atlanta, where he is supposed to be military protection that the government is trying to find a way to resolve this mess. To prepare himself for his journey, Rick goes to his police station to pick up guns and gives some to Morgan – who plans to use his wife to shoot a zombie, to put them out of their misery. Rick also is still in a compassionate mood, and the average burst body was found at the beginning of what may eventually die (“Sorry, this happened to you.”)

Then, in most of the episode of agitation visual shots, we see Rick’s approach the city of Atlanta on horseback across the road, with a stream of cars trying to flee now frozen. And then we see the zombies that attack Rick … because they are eager to eat the raw flesh of his horse. To escape, crawls under a tank and your belly, where fires inside the zombie soldier. But being inside a tank, bounce bullet and temporarily deafened him. Fortunately, this is just in time to hear someone ask, “Hey, you in the tank.”

How did you find the episode, readers? After reading the series by Robert Kirkman, I can tell you that things are going to be sad and fast .. I can not wait to see that unfold on the screen. There’s something about the combination of the zombie and apocalyptic times that brings out the worst in human beings, which is where the real horror – and good drama – lies.
