Texas Tech Football, Nebraska has dropped out of The Associated Press college football poll after its latest humbling loss, and the top of the rankings was unchanged after No. 1 Alabama passed its first big test of the season.

The Cornhuskers, No. 23 last week, are unranked the day after UCLA won in Lincoln, Neb., 41-21. The Bruins scored the final 38 points. Since Nebraska’s record streak of 348 consecutive poll appearances ended in September 2002, there have been only two seasons (2010, ’11) in which the Huskers have been ranked every week, starting in the preseason.

The Tide received all but one of 60 first-place votes from the media panel after beating Texas A&M 49-42. The Aggies are 10th. The rest of the top five is Oregon, Clemson, Ohio State and Stanford.

The Top 25 teams in The Associated Press college football poll, with first-place votes in parentheses, records through Sept. 14, total points based on 25 points for a first-place vote through one point for a 25th-place vote, and previous ranking:

East Carolina Football

East Carolina Football, Now, the Red Raiders open the season today with its new coach Tommy Tuberville at the helm. Tuberville will continue to run the offense that Leach had been widely successful with recent years. If the Red Raiders will have a fall, the odds makers do not predict what will happen in a week.

Texas Tech is favored by two touchdowns at Southern Methodist this afternoon. The college football odds are different Paris of the NFL in the fact that differences can often leave for the Games opening. In the NFL point spreads are relatively low for the first game, with the odds makers unsure of how each team will play.

Several changes have taken place on Saturday; the most important was the installation of a return, a Jacksonville State second half to defeat Houston Nutt’s Mississippi Bulldogs. Florida and LSU, two other powers of the SEC, both escaped with victories after poor performances in their first games of the year.

Tulsa and East Carolina opens its season today as one of two college games scheduled for this afternoon. Seven points favor Tulsa, and the total for the game fifty-nine suggests a shooting attack. The total is even higher in the Texas Tech game, SMU. The point total indicates that sixty Texas Tech will be again a potent offense.

The last of the opening week of games takes place in college football, Monday night, and it is as close a game involving the national championship as can be possible in one week. Virginia Tech, the favorites in the ACC to take on a third Boise State team that feels they have been stolen from a title shot last year. Starting at number three this season, Boise can provide early case if they cannot defeat the Hokies.

The Texas Tech football program has experienced a renaissance under the leadership of Mike Leach, but the relationship crumbled late last season when players turned the once popular car. An incident involving his son ESPN analyst Craig James has led to the dismissal of Leach.
