Road Conditions Nashville TNRoad Conditions Nashville TN:2010 TDOT Road Conditions, Closures (I-24, I-40) and 2010 Update Flood Tennessee (VIDEO). Severe weather claimed the lives of at least five people in central Tennessee Saturday, according to reports on CNN.com. The rain fell throughout the day as reported by the National Weather Service: 6 to 10 inches in 12 hours.

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean said, “This is one of the most severe rainfall events Nashville has ever experienced.” Even in the small suburb of Memphis, Millington, two levees broke, making at least 2,000 people. Among numerous roads were closed due to bad weather and the closing grave, I-24 was closed after becoming life threatening to flood waters.

Video footage shows like a whitewater river, with cars and even floating in a school building uprooting and traveling along. (The building eventually became the challenge and broke into pieces as it crashed into vehicles driven by the force of flood waters. The video images can be found at CNN.com.

Debris as large as vehicles and buildings have been razed, flooded homes and towns basically closed the heavy rains that have taken on the South Central area in the last 24 hours. The rains are expected to continue until the morning of Sunday, while rain pass through the area. Meanwhile, shelters are being created, including one at Lipscomb University.

TDOT reports that parts of I-24 and I-40 is closed. I-40 is a main artery from Nashville to Memphis. I-24 is also a main interstate that connects Nashville to other major metropolitan areas.
