Teacher

Teacher, Christine Judd was a damn good at her job. After having worked for the Cathedral High School in Springfield, Massachusetts for 12 years, his career took off from Judd, from a science teacher in 1998, moving forward to become the Dean of Students and then a sports director for three years.

Heck, even the school Web site, Judd shows up as “one of the key members of the faculty and staff who serve as positive role models for students.”

This is a good teacher, a good example for children, and a good manager. But as you start the 2010-2011 school year, Judd is not going to work in the Cathedral High School more. Why? Because the Catholic Diocese of Springfield has a problem with the fact that Judd is married to a woman last month.

“They gave me the option of termination or resignation,” said Judd. “I’m hurt.”

You know who else is affected by this? Students at Cathedral High School for 12 years that have had a passionate teacher and good to work. Not anymore. And just because she is a lesbian married.

As reports Masslive.com, Judd says she is sad because that is being removed from his position.

“I expect my loyalty, my professionalism in the last 12 years, will replace the current hypocrisy that has already been demonstrated with the Diocese of Springfield,” Judd said, adding that “this was a decision of the diocese,” which means that the institutional Church in Springfield could not stand the fact that a school employee could love someone of the same sex.

Judd hits the nail on the head when you use this word hypocrisy. Is it the dismissal of school employees to use a contraceptive method? Because it is technically against Catholic teaching. What about teachers and school employees who are divorced? Because that also is against Church teaching.

What a tragedy. Yes, the policy of the church gives them the right to do this. But that does not mean it is the right thing to do. One teacher valued, appreciated and congratulated the staff for their outstanding leadership, said she can not teach because she is a lesbian.

The Church is really batting a thousand here. They tell the children of gay parents can not enroll in school. And now tell a good teacher who is not qualified to teach in their schools, just because he is gay.

Add a little salt to the wound, the spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, said the diocese has nothing but kind words for Judd.

“We are certainly grateful to Ms. Judd passed through his service in the Cathedral High School and wish him well in the future,” said diocesan spokesman Mark Dupont.

Nothing says “thank you” as a forced termination, right? Shame on the students and staff at Cathedral High School.
