Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro, I wondered if sexism against women in this election cycle is going to attract attention. – I will not go back to the ’84 campaign, when I was also called “word that rhymes with witch.” – I have since received several excuses shame of a very kind woman who was, understandably, caught in the campaign of her husband. And that is over.

But in 2008 I became crazy and ended up losing a lot of friends in the media when he was very vocal about how Hillary was treated by the press and his opponent.

After the campaign was over, the numerous reports from academics across the country, as well as some women in the media, but the change in behavior that I expected to come forward in this campaign, never materialized. Instead, the silence was deafening.

Until there came a report that Meg Whitman was called “btch” by one of the staff members former Gov. Jerry Brown. Brown did what he could. He apologized and fired the employee to send the message that such behavior would not be tolerated by his campaign.

Almost like a blow one, two, Joy Behar – an old friend for over 30 years, an artist in a way trapped in the fun of the ratings, a kind of Beck and Rush Limbaugh, O’Reilly and out of the tiff in your program – issued a challenge to Sharron Angle to discuss the immigration issue on “The View” and referred to it repeatedly as a “whore.”

If you’ve heard any of the routines of Joy you know that, like most comedians is an equal opportunity basher. That does not excuse and I’ll tell you the next time I see her to dismiss the sexist remarks during the campaign. We all know how much good they do!

But despite complained Sharron Joy sexist rant, for some inexplicable reason, leveled a blow sexist and low (double meaning intended) against Senator Reid, saying that “man.” It was too much of a gentleman to respond. It is not a line that would come out of New York. She can not resist a sexist behavior against her and then turn around and act sexist opponent.

But not only Democrats against Republicans who sometimes cross the line. Take, for example, Carly Fiorina. Do not tell me he did not realize he was being sexist – and a bit ageist – when Barbara Boxer said, referring to an off-mike comments: “God what is with that hair So yesterday?.”

And how did it break when Senator John McCain issued a rare blow to a colleague in the Senate when Barbara Boxer said about distorting his record after that “I know (how hard it is on defense) because I have had the unpleasant experience of having to serve with it. ”

For those who do not know how the Senate, the senator does not refer to his colleagues in the field. John McCain has not referred to any colleagues before that. He thought he could get away with it because she is female.

If women in Arizona go on the Internet and Google two words: John McCain, rape and the gorilla – you can see where it came from as far as women are concerned.

His public statements are just the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps women in Arizona will have its disrespect for women in the polls with them on Tuesday and sent for a new job after the first of the year.

And while you’re at it, maybe the woman from Alaska who visit Joe Miller, who asked Sen. Murkowski, “What is the difference between selling out of his party and the oldest profession?” Would you have asked a man? Do not you get?

Then, of course, is not Nancy Pelosi. When she spoke of “Charlie Rose” in October last year, commenting that the decision of the General Stanley McChrystal to publicly air their views on the war in Afghanistan instead of privately to the president, was inadequate, the director of communications Commission Republican National Committee, Ken Spain, said, inter alia, “that taxpayers can only hope McChrystal is able to put in place.”

Well. I think that both Gen. Petraeus and the president agreed to “place” was in the chair of the President and General McChyrstal place? Not sure where it is.

And even more superficial – that anyone, even his detractors can say that Nancy Pelosi does not know his job or not do so.

What we hear about constantly – Armani suits, his hair style, speculation about whether she used Botox, and even his age.

Remember Dennis Hastert? Nobody laughed at his girth or the fly? Does anyone speculate who bought his suits at an end of season sale in the gallery of men? You may be criticized for their actions, but never degraded its appearance.

When Sarah Palin ran in 2008 I stayed away from any criticism of her as a woman. I concentrated on politics and what came out of his mouth as he did with Dan Quayle and others.

Karl Rove’s criticism of her is not because she is a woman. He was and is critical due to its credentials as a candidate. That’s where the criticism should fall on both sides of the aisle with both sexes.

It is time to eliminate sexism in the campaigns. Depending on the media – liberal and conservative alike, but depends on the candidate. Carly Fiorina and Sharron Angle can not take two bites of the apple opposite sides and I think it’s okay. It’s time to stop hate speech, not relevant to the issue campaigns and reach that are important to our country.
