Syracuse Mens Basketball, Even as Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim readies to bring his team to Manhattan as the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament later this week, the Hall of Famer will be answering questions about what has gone on behind his Orange Curtain.

During the last decade, at least 10 Syracuse basketball players tested positive for a banned recreational substance or substances, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. Sources told the website that Syracuse violated its drug policy by failing to properly count positive tests and by playing ineligible players after they should have been suspended.

Syracuse released a statement Monday afternoon acknowledging an NCAA inquiry into the tests but declined comment on individual cases.

“We self-reported issues with drug testing to the NCAA, and there is currently an ongoing inquiry,” Syracuse said in the statement. “The inquiry does not involve any current SU student-athletes. To ensure the integrity of the ongoing process, we are unable to comment further at this time.”

NCAA member schools are not required to have their own drug-testing policy, but most employ programs because of potential legal and disciplinary ramifications.

If Syracuse is found to have knowingly violated its own drug policies, the NCAA can bypass its four-year statute of limitations in favor of levying sanctions as far back as the first in a series of continued infractions.

Syracuse (30-1) is ranked No. 2 in the nation, but has faced scrutiny off the court since November when long-time assistant Bernie Fine was fired in light of sexual abuse allegations levied against him by a former Orange ball boy and his brother.

No criminal charges have been filed by against Fine.
