Sultan Al SaudSultan Al Saud, Crown of Saudi Arabia, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz al-Saud died at dawn on Saturday in the United States, the country of the royal court said in a statement carried by state media.

Sultan, who was thought to be about 86 years, had been in the United States for medical treatment since June.

As heir to the throne of world’s largest exporter of oil, which had been minister of defense and aviation minister for four decades.

“With deep sorrow and sadness, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz mourned the death of his brother and Crown Prince Sultan, who died at dawn on Saturday morning outside the kingdom after a disease, “said the statement posted on the state SPA news agency and state television.

Saudi television on Saturday broke its schedule to broadcast Koranic verses with pictures of the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest site in Islam.

Funeral services will be held in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday.

Widely believed to be next in line after Sultan’s Interior Minister Prince Nayef, who was appointed second deputy prime minister in 2009.

King Abdullah is in his late 80s and underwent back surgery earlier this month but has been represented since then in apparently good health.

The king was absent three months later in 2010, while he underwent treatment for a herniated disc that caused the blood to accumulate around your spine.

Prince Nayef, who is in his 70s, has a reputation for being more conservative than is the crown prince or king.

Unlike the European monarchies, the line of succession does not move directly from father to eldest son, but has moved to a line of children born to the founder of the kingdoms of Ibn Saud, who died in 1953.
