Nike Method PutterNike Method Putter:It had to spend time with putting problems this year, Tiger, Tiger is committed to change his Scotty Cameron putter to putter Nike METHODS 001 in the 2010 British Open.

In the video speaks ESPN Tiger Tom Rinaldi about his decision to change putters at the British Open. One reason, are slow greens at St. Andrews and the method gets the ball rolling faster and easier than with your old putter.

Should be interesting to see how well Tiger putts this week at the Open Championship. I can not wait to find out! www.nikegolf.com

Billy Martin

Billy MartinBilly Martin:One thing I can say about the late George Steinbrenner: He may have been wrong about many things, but I think their constant hiring and firing Billy Martin was actually a good idea, the sound. Martin, who helped make Steinbrenner the Yankees a championship team, was a great coach, especially when it came to improving the performance of the players, who almost always has a better season a team than it had before incorporation, many players had their best year under him. But Martin was so intense and crazy that no one could bear to play for him for over a year or two, tops. The rebel players and the team was down, and would have to be fired. Everyone fired not long after Martin joined. The only difference is that Steinbrenner was going to wait a few years and then bring back Martin, to start again with players who were not yet ready to kill him. The way I think about it is: Martin was very regular Steinbrenner manager from 1976 until his death. It’s just that he had to be relieved of their duties every few years because there was no way I could manage a team for several years continuously.

Bill James put it this way in one of his Baseball Abstracts:

What Steinbrenner has done in the eighties Martin actually makes a lot of sense, it is not traditional, and the world of sport that means you’ll be criticized, but it makes sense. Martin and knowledge intensity of the game make him a tremendous asset in the short term for the organization, you can still do more to improve a baseball team during the night than anyone in the world, including Don Mattingly and Roger Clemens. But his lack of maturity, their high-pressure tactics, and mind games eventually create resentment and hostility as a long-term detriment – in fact, he just can not manage a baseball team for over a couple of years, or self-destruction. Makes sense, I think, to bring him in, get the benefit of their skills, then put it in a cooler somewhere and let things calm down a bit before having to return.

Yogi BerraYogi Berra:(NJ) — Among the players who have worn the famous Yankees pinstripes, Yogi Berra is the patriarch. Although he had his differences with the Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner, who died today at 80, and for a time distant from the Yankees organization because of a disagreement with Steinbrenner, in recent years Berra was again near Yankees and the manager.

Berra issued a statement today with his wife about Steinbrenner:

This is a very sad day for Carmen and me and all of baseball. My sympathies go out to the Steinbrenner family.

George was the boss, make no mistake. He built the Yankees champions and that’s something nobody can deny. He was very generous, caring, passionate. George and I had our differences, but who does not? We became great friends during the last decade and I really miss him.

New York YankeesNew York Yankees:(Voice of America) — George Steinbrenner, owner of New Major League Baseball New York Yankees, has died after suffering a massive heart attack.

Steinbrenner, who celebrated his 80th birthday July 4, had been in declining health. He was taken to a hospital in Tampa, Florida, after emergency crews responded to his home Monday night. He died Tuesday morning.

Steinbrenner had owned the Yankees since 1973. The team won seven World Series titles and 11 American League pennants during his tenure of 37 years, which was the longest in team history. He returned for the day to day control of the team to his sons, Hal and Hank, in late 2007.

The Ohio-born Steinbrenner was one of the most controversial figures in sports. Nicknamed “The Boss”, was known for micromanaging the team, often brought him into conflict with the manager of the Yankees. He also played an important role in the escalation of player salaries in their search for high-priced free agents.

Steinbrenner is survived by his wife of 54 years and four children.
