Statue Of LibertyStatue Of Liberty, Just two years after the crown of the Statue of Liberty was reopened to visitors, the entire monument will be closed for a year to carry out further reforms, the National Park Service says. The closure will begin the day after the 125th anniversary of the statue was held on 28 October.

But it seems that tourists do not really lose that much inside the statue as The New York Times reports, only 30 percent of people who take the ferry to Liberty Island to visit the statue of the hassle of climbing stairs inside. And since the work done within the structure, Island Park will be open to the public.

The closure will allow contractors to upgrade the stairs, add new fire suppression systems and elevators, “and the rehabilitation of the bathrooms,” say park service.

News reports, Margot Adler says, “The current fire codes mandate that the statue to be evacuated in two hours if necessary, but the current steps on both sides of the pedestal does not meet these standards.”

Money for the value of 27.25 million and the renovation comes from the National Park Service and the granting of Loans Park Franchise Fee program, according to the National Park Service.

After the attacks of September 11, 2001, the statue closed for three years, having received 20 million and a security update.

Anyone who wants to see the statue, but cannot get to New York, you can virtually visit Lady Liberty, an “e-tour” at the site of the Park Service.
