Spice Girls Reunion

January 22, 2012 by · Comments Off on Spice Girls Reunion

Spice Girls Reunion, A teaspoon of Baby, a squeeze of Sporty, a dash of Scary and Posh and a pinch of Ginger — what kind of concoction does that create in the year 2012? A simmering pot of spicy rumors, that’s for sure.

Even after their reunion tour in 2007, these five once-obsessed-over women haven’t been able to escape the rumor that fans around the world hope to the true: that the Spice Girls will perform during the opening ceremonies at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Considering that the five ladies are currently working on a West End musical featuring all of their greatest hits, it wouldn’t be surprising if the subject of performing together again has been considered. (Side note: a Spice Girls musical? For real? Even after the joyfully train-wreckish “Spice World” movie? Perhaps they’re channeling their inner Billie Joe Armstrong and putting the story of their flash fame to the stage.)

Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell told UK news source The Daily Mirror last year that “Singing at the games is a great idea and would be an amazing opportunity — and it’s a sign the Brits are back. This is our time. Everything is circular and now there’s a British pop revival.” All this, coming from the first girl to leave the group back in 1998. Go figure.

Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, current “X-Fact: Australia” judge, would “Love it if we got back together and got to go on tour,” amplifying rumors of the one-time Olympic stint that much further. She told Star Magazine that she’d “never say never.”

Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisolm, however, isn’t so sure. After releasing her fifth solo album, “The Sea,” earlier this year, Mel says that she would rather concentrate on her own gigs than reuniting with the girls, even for just one performance. “I don’t need that,” she told Contact Music. We assume she’s referring to the stress, the pressure and compromise of being part of a big name gal pal group. We understand. But just this once, please, Mel C!

The only Girl, err, woman to put a definite stop to such exciting plans would have to be Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham. She doesn’t need the money and she doesn’t need the fame. Arguably the most successful alum of the girl group, Posh has created a career of being soccer babe David Beckham’s wife, mother of four, and style icon to even the most fashion-forward.

Mums the word from Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, who was most recently on the UK’s “Dancing on Ice.” Though she has been tweeting quite a bit about hanging out with the other Spice Girls and the “Spice Kids” (offspring, duh), she hasn’t had much to say about the Olympics reunion.
