Southern Scuffle 2012, The Ohio University Wrestling team sits in 10th place after day one competition at the 2012 Southern Scuffle. The tournament is being held on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga inside McKenzie Arena.

Redshirt freshman Harrison Hightower, (Strongsville, Ohio), senior Nick Purdue (Genoa, Ohio), sophomore Ryan Garringer (Downers Grove, Ill.), senior Andy Hartshorn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and sophomore Jeremy Johnson (Broadview Heights, Ohio) advanced to day two competition in the 157, 174, 184, 285 and 285 pound weight classes, respectively.

Hightower defeated opponents from Duke, Appalachian State and Chattanooga. He will open day two competition against Jedd Moore from Virginia.

Purdue advanced to day two competition after he posted victories over opponents from Virginia Tech and Virginia. His first bout will place him against Andre Petroski from North Carolina.

Garringer dropped his first match of the day, but rebounded by winning his final three matches of the day, defeating opponents from Chattanooga, Army and North Carolina to advance to day two competition. His final two victories came by way of a pin. Garringer’s first bout will place him against Minnesota’s Kevin Steinhaus.

Harshorn posted victories over opponents from Campbell and the Citadel before dropping a 3-2 decision to Cameron Wade from Penn State. His first bout of day two competition will place him against Ethan Hayes from Virginia.

Johnson advanced to day two competition after he posted a pair of victories before dropping a 7-3 decision to Chad Hanke from Oregon. His first match will place him against Andrew Delaney from the Citadel.
