Sneezing Fits

Sneezing Fits, Every time my son eats a meal it is followed by a fit of sneezing that lasts for five minutes. He sneezes up to 20 times, and it happens after every kind of food (we can’t find a common cause). He feels embarrassed about it and hates eating out in restaurants. Have you any idea what’s causing this?
What your son is probably suffering from is prandial (meaning during eating) or post-prandial (just after eating) rhinorrhea (runny nose). This in turn causes the sneezing – the nose can produce mucus in response to eating in the same way as
the stomach produces digestive juices. It is not harmful, but to avoid embarrassment when eating out your son could try over-the-counter antihistamines
or steroid nasal spray.

A sensitivity to sugar or fat might be a cause. Try a very simple diet for a few days (non-sugary cereals with rice milk, poached egg on plain toast, baked fish or chicken with steamed vegetables). Post-prandial rhinorrhea is also thought to be caused by an allergy to pesticides and an immune response to chitin, a substance found in many foods. Try applying Vaseline in and around the nostrils, drinking water with meals and blowing the nose regularly.

Ayurveda would recommend strengthening your son’s digestive system. This may involve removing any offending item(s) – wheat, dairy and corn are common allergenic foods – under the guidance of an ayurvedic practitioner. He could also try some digestive spices to increase his ‘digestive fire’?, for example Seven Seeds, a mixture of seven spices, including ginger and fennel, that works like a digestive enzyme.
