Smu, The volleyball team of the State of Texas did everything possible to return from a two-set deficit and none, but the rally team came up just before the Bobcats fell to Texas Tech 3-2 (25-22, 25 – 23, 17 -25, 19-25, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the SMU Invitational at Moody Coliseum.

With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 2-4 after going 0-3 in the tournament.

Texas Tech, which finished 1-2 in the tournament, improved to 2-4 overall.

Texas State freshman right side hitter Amari Deardorff won honors in the tournament-team as she led the team with a .309 hitting percentage and was second with 41 deaths in the three-game tournament. Deardorff also recorded eight digs and five blocks.

“It means a lot because it is only my second tournament,” said Deardorff. “I’m getting faster and getting in the swing of things so I’ll be ready to play for my team later in the season.”

Deardorff was a consistent performer throughout the weekend for the Bobcats. In the first match, which had a team high 20 kills and .421 hitting percentage. Then, she posted nine kills and two blocks before finishing against SMU with 12 kills and a .364 hitting percentage in Saturday’s contest against Texas Tech

Statistically, the Bobcats performed better than the Red Raiders in many areas.

Texas State hit .312 as a team for the match compared to just .222 hitting percentage also Bobcats Texas Tech 73 kills and 73 digs compared to only 59 dams and 70 digs for TTU.

Blocking numbers were also slightly in favor of the State of Texas as the team held an 11.5-11.0 lead.

Working against the Bobcats of the 13 service errors, while the Red Raiders committed five errors in the service line.

AJ Watlington Bobcats led three double-digit kills as she posted a career-high 20. The father had only six errors in 49 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage for the match. In addition, a few hi-Watlington-16 digs for her third consecutive double double.

Also posting double-digit kills the State of Texas is Preslia Alexander (15) and Deardorff (12). Alexander, who also had 14 digs in the contest, she recorded her first career double double along with a pair of aces and a .268 hitting percentage.

Shelbie Bobcat Irvin was third with a double double as she recorded a maximum of 41 teams with 10 assists excavations.

Ashlee Hilbun led the Bobcat block with 10 instruments to the game, the highest total for any one party Bobcat so far this season. Hilbun also led the team with a .500 after hitting nine kills on 18 stifle attempts without an error.

After falling short in the first two sets, the State of Texas rallied to take the third and fourth sets convincingly. The decisive fifth set also seemed to be in control of the Bobcats jumped out to an 8-5 lead, but Texas Tech made a late race victory.

With the score tied 10-10; a kill TTU gave the Red Raiders the lead before Alexander tied the effort to tie the set. Hilbun found the back corner of the court TTU opened the following point of killing the game of Texas a 12-11 lead, but responded with technology back-to-back kills in the lead of 13-12.

After a timeout of the State of Texas, Texas Tech committed a service error tied the set again, but the Red Raiders regrouped and scored the next two points on a kill and a block to capture his second victory of the season.

The Bobcats are back in court on Tuesday when the team hosts Prairie View A & M for a 6:30 pm matches.
