Smuckers Peanut Butter Recall

November 18, 2011 by · Comments Off on Smuckers Peanut Butter Recall

Smuckers Peanut Butter Recall, The Ohio-based J.M. Smucker Co.? is recalling 16-ounce jars of Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky? distributed in many states, including Illinois, because of possible salmonella contamination, according to The Associated Press.

But the recall doesn’t seem to be affecting the big grocery stores in Frankfort. A store manager at Jewel Osco at Frankfort Crossing Shopping Center said the chain’s corporate headquarters told stores haven’t received the tainted peanut butter. Walt’s Food Center on LaGrange Road does not stock the brand, an assistant store manager said.

A message left at Dominick’s corporate headquarters in Oak Brook was not returned.

The recalled jars have a “best if used by” date of Aug. 3, 2012 and Aug. 4, 2012, plus the production codes 1307004 and 1308004, according to the article.

Most persons infected with salmonella bacteria develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most people recover within a week, but some may require hospitalization; in rare cases, the infection can be fatal.
