Archies’ tastes and Creedence Clearwater Revival were ghosts in the shadow of the media, just ask Justin Bieber if he’s “ever seen the rain.” Mick Jagger still rules the charts (technically), but Funkmaster Sly Stone, Father Time has not been so kind.

Reports emerged this weekend that Stone, whose ’69 hit people every day, once dominated the airwaves, is living on the streets of Los Angeles. Stone, 68, sleeps in a van parked on Crenshaw, one of the most famous of the city.

Throughout his personal and musical, Stone has been dogged by substance abuse and financial mismanagement. The 1984 sale of music publishing rights to Michael Jackson for a 1 million undervalued and is commonly seen as an example of financial incompetence Stone. In April, the singer faces cocaine possession charges in Los Angeles.

The former Sly and the Family Stone man in front of his money problems because of Jerry Goldstein, his former manager. On the New York Post, Stone says Goldstein manipulated him into a contract that pays a weekly paycheck, Goldstein won the remaining assets of the artist. Stone filed a lawsuit and $ 50 million for fraud and theft of royalties last year.

The man who once hosted the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin at his mansion in Beverly Hills comfort is now cut tracks in their white van. Stone, who launched his first album in nearly thirty years last month, said the message to the press that his distrust of the music industry is preventing the release of his new van plastic.

Although he claims he still has “millions of dollars,” Stone is asking for work. “Please tell everybody, please give me a job, play my music. I’m tired of this sh-t man,” Stone lamented. Unfortunately for Sly, the phone is not ringing. Only in the streets of Los Angeles funk legend awaits his inner demons to complete the destruction of an illustrious career.
