Silvio BerlusconiSilvio Berlusconi, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won a confidence vote on Friday, the 51st since he took office in 2008. Supporters of Berlusconi won the vote in the Italian parliament’s lower house by a slim majority of 316 “yes” votes against 301 votes “no”.

Friday’s vote was prompted by Parliament’s decision to reject a budget allocation routine, but important. A number of prominent supporters of Prime Minister were absent during the vote, including Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti.

The confidence vote is seen as a further step in reducing the political career of Prime Minister. Italian Prime Minister has been under great pressure by the mismanagement of the country’s economic problems. The fact that Berlusconi is accused in three trials for bribery, tax evasion, abuse of power and paying for sex with a minor is also added to the prime minister’s ratings plummeting approval.
