Sidney Rice NewsSidney Rice News, Seattle Seahawks made another touch free agent Wednesday night, according to Sidney Rice (notes) on a new contract to join the list. Join now Tarvaris Jackson (notes) as the head of the Seahawks offense in 2011, giving the team a nice deep threat on one side of the field.

The signing of rice is a major step in the right direction for Seattle, adding another offensive player more and more development. The agreement, which cannot be officially signed until Friday, is called to be five years and a total of 41 million. That’s a big contract for a wide receiver, but it shows that the value will be taken this year in the NFL. The Seahawks blog is already praising the good that has been in recent years, and how was elected to the Pro Bowl after an impressive 2009 season.
In 2009, Rice caught 83 passes for 1.312 yards and eight touchdowns. He became a prime target for the veteran quarterback Brett Favre (notes), and was a huge part in the offensive for most of the year. He suffered a hip injury in the championship game of the NFC this year, however, and limited its action to only six games in 2010. It remained under the radar for a while, but now 24 years old, is trying to put a big number again.

The Seahawks claimed a great addition here, especially because the best that Rice has to offer could still come. He is now a much better player developed with the experience behind him to read defenses and help your quarterback. That is the same team that Jackson only contributes to the development of this link in the field this year. Add to this the fact that he is a big target (6 feet 4 inches and pounds 202) and the Seahawks are now a great weapon.

It’s hard not to get excited about what the Seahawks office is doing now, even if it is a departure from Matt Hasselbeck (notes) era. They continue to put the talent in the field, and will lead to greater success in the field each week. Here’s hoping that the connection to Jackson-Rice Seattle gets another NFC West title.
