SelectaDNASelectaDNA, BREAK into Maccas and you’ll be sprayed blue. The latest crime-deterrent has been equipped in six McDonald’s restaurants across the state. The SelectaDNA spray system `tags’ criminals and their stolen goods at the scene of the crime, enhancing the likelihood offenders will be caught and prosecuted.

Used in other parts of the world, the anti-robbery system’s fine-mist spray will stay on the offender’s skin for up to two weeks.

It is mounted on the ceiling and when activated via a remote control, emits the solution and simultaneously notifies the local police of the incident.

The solution glows blue under ultraviolet light and is completely insoluble.

When the solution is analysed, the unique DNA marker present in each SelectaDNA spray provides police with irrefutable evidence of the offender’s crime.

A NSW Police spokesman endorsed the move to upgrade McDonald’s crime prevention measures, who are the first to use this type of system in Australia.

“We would hope that others will follow suit,’’ he said in regards to the technology.
