School Holiday Ideas

School Holiday Ideas, The holidays are a comin’ and parents need to be prepared with ideas to keep the little ones busy while school is out. My favorite craft ideas are those that are memorable, simple and cost-effective. With those prerequisites in mind, I gathered the following ideas from a variety of South Florida parents, teachers and friends.

MAKE YOUR OWN WRAPPING PAPER
Materials: Wax paper, confetti, dried flowers/leaves, glitter, sequins, scraps of colored tissue paper, paints, feathers, colorful bits of string and an iron
Instructions: Place a piece of wax paper with the wax side down. Sprinkle your confetti or dried flowers, glitter, etc., on the paper. Cover your creation with another piece of wax paper that is approximately the same size as the first. Move your hot iron lightly across the top of the two sheets of paper. The wax melts together, creating a see-through wrapping paper. You can then use decorative or straight-edged scissors to finish off the ends.
Other suggestions to consider: Use items that will bend easily because the wrapping paper will have to conform to a variety of shapes. Younger children can help sprinkle the items between the two sheets of paper, and the older kids or an adult will need to do the ironing.

PINE CONE BIRDFEEDERS
Materials: Pinecones (if not in your yard, they can be found at most craft stores), peanut butter, butter knife, birdseed and string/ribbon
Instructions: Lie down newspaper on a cookie sheet. Dip the butter knife into the peanut butter, and spread it all over the cone. Sprinkle the birdseed over the peanut butter. Tie the string or ribbon on the top of the pinecone, and hang outside.
Other suggestions to consider: Not only will your family and friends enjoy watching the birds congregate when they come over, but the squirrels will like it, too!
