Sathya Sai Baba SamadhiSathya Sai Baba Samadhi, Sathya Sai Baba was buried in the form of a samadhi in his ashram in Puttaparthi on Wednesday. Sai Baba’s nephew RJ Ratnakar guided by nine priests, strict adherence to traditional rituals, performed the final rites and Vedic chants in Sai Kulwanth Hall, which was closed to the public during the ceremony.

Close devotees of spiritual guru – considered by many to be the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba, witnessed the rituals with tears in his eyes as he was buried with state honors before full.

BJP leaders LK Advani and Venkaiah Naidu, Andhra Pradesh, Governor ESL Narsimhan, Punjab Governor Shivraj V Patil, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Kirankumar Ramos, his counterpart in Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony to-door closed.

The ceremony was preceded by the chanting of verses from religious leaders of Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity and Baha’i.

Sai Baba was offered nine types of food grains, water, nine rivers and nine precious stones – that represent the nine planets. A cow was donated before the body was buried.

Sai Baba was buried lying on his back causing debate among religious leaders across the state. Santos and saints are kept in the Padmasana (lotus posture) to Samadhi, as it is believed to have reached a level of detachment that makes the cremation redundant.

The final burial ritual was carried out behind the curtains. The chanting of Om Sai Ram emanating from the devotees of the curtains was raised.

Politicians were the first to offer prayers at the Samadhi, before the show ended with Mangala Arati ‘(verses sung in praise of God.)

Hundreds of thousands of devotees have flocked to the ashram, Prashanti Nilayam, Sai Baba since died after multiple organ failure on Sunday. However, the streets wore a deserted look during the ceremony, which was broadcast live on local television channels.

The general public would be allowed to offer prayers at the samadhi at noon.

The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust plans to build a temple at the place of samadhi, on similar lines to Shirdi Sai Baba temple in Maharashtra.
