Sandra Bullock Red Carpet

Sandra Bullock Red Carpet, Red carpets are being prepared all over Hollywood as the town gears up for the core events of Awards Season. Which begs the question: Who will rise to the top, and who will be thrashed by pitiless fashion commentators?

My money’s on Sandra Bullock for the former. She was a sleeper of a red carpet style icon last year. She was on nearly everyone’s top-ten list for best dressed at the Oscars, resplendent in crimson, strapless Vera Wang. Her pink Jenny Packham gown earned applause from fashion editors, as did her beige Vivienne Westwood at the People’s Choice awards.

Pretty good for a 47-year-old Hollywood actress who was recovering from a broken-up marriage and adjusting to motherhood. But! Can she woo the fickle fashion audience as adroitly this year, now that her life appears to be back on track?

In a finer world, it wouldn’t matter—only the quality of the films would count. But in this world, celebrities—female ones anyway—really do need the help of stylists to survive the merciless walk down the red gangplank.

Bullock’s stylist is Deborah Waknin. Their choice of a black Alexander McQueen tuxedo, belted over the jacket, for the premier of “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” last month, was sheer genius. For one thing, who would dare criticize Alexander McQueen in this year of Everything McQueen? Savvy! Secondly, Bullock looked smashing in it. I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Globes.

As for the likely train wrecks, there are so many possibilities—fairly or unfairly—that it is anybody’s guess. I’d love to hear your guesses, in fact.
