Gas Explosion San Bruno, Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today in the natural gas explosion in San Bruno, California, last night:

“The thoughts and prayers of the Bay Area and the nation are with the victims of the natural gas explosion in San Bruno.

“The Bay Area delegation in Congress, led by Rep. Jackie Speier, working closely with state and local leaders to ensure that all necessary assistance is delivered expeditiously to quickly recover from this devastating tragedy. The Red Cross has shelters in place and local blood banks are seeking donations.

“A full investigation should take place in the coming days to determine the cause of this horrible accident, and the National Transportation Safety Board has sent a team to California. However, our first responsibility must be to the families of those who have killed, wounded and those who have lost their homes.

“Our thanks to the hundreds of rescue personnel who are working valiantly to save lives and homes.”
