Rush Limbaugh Apology

Rush Limbaugh Apology, Newt Gingrich says it was “appropriate” for Rush Limbaugh to apologize to Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke for calling her a “sl*t,” but he slammed the news media for its focus on the talk show host’s words.

Gingrich, speaking on Sunday talk-show programs on CNN, ABC and NBC, says the debate should be on President Obama’s birth control policy — which the GOP presidential candidate says is a “fundamental assault on religious liberty.”

Limbaugh was “right to apologize,” Gingrich said today on ABC’s This Week, before decrying the “elite media” and the way the debate has been framed.

Rick Santorum, meanwhile, rejected the suggestion that the Republican Party is fixated about contraception. “The issue is about whether government can force you to do something against your conscience,” Santorum said on Fox News.

For weeks now, the two political parties have been at odds over the Obama policy, which is part of the national health care law. The rule requires most employers to offer health insurance that includes coverage for contraceptives without any co-payment. It was amended after heavy criticism from Catholic groups — now religious institutions can avoid paying for contraceptives as long as their insurance providers do so.

Republicans frame the issue as one about religious freedom. Democrats have been using the issue as an example of the GOP trying to infringe on the rights of women, and they have raised money for the 2012 elections with that narrative.
