Westboro Baptist Church Of Topeka Kansas, President Barack Obama Travels to Arizona on Wednesday, following the weekend shooting there that left six people dead and 14 wounded, including one member of Congress, two senior government officials told CNN Monday. Newsweek, Jonathan Alter wrote: “Just as Bill Clinton’s response, 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City helped him recover from his defeat in 1994 midterms, so this episode may help Obama change, at least in the short term trajectory of American politics. Clinton has done more than just talk with emotion after Oklahoma City and bring the country together as a plaintiff in chief.

He was able to use the event to discredit the militia movement and pack hate speech on radio talk enough that it was not much of a factor in his 1996 reelection. Historians and officials of the Clinton era later saw the bombing in Oklahoma City as the turning point in his political comeback. ”

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona has remained in a critical but stable condition at a hospital in Tucson on Monday, while his alleged would-be assassin made his first appearance in court. The alleged gunman, Jared Lee Loughner, 22, appeared briefly in court in Phoenix formally hear the charges against him. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 24.

Meanwhile, mourners will gather at a memorial service Tuesday for victims of the shooting weekend. Mass will be held tonight at St. Odiilia Church in Tucson, Arizona – where 9 years of shooting victim Christina Green had made his first communion a year ago.

Tucson is just not that kind of town, “said Christin Gilmer. Gilmer refers to the actions of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, who made his name in protest against the funerals of people died of AIDS, gay men, even soldiers and Coretta Scott King. But when the church announced its intention to picket the funerals of the 9 year old girl – one of six people who died Saturday during the attempted assassination of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords – Gilmer and others feet down. They are planning an “Angel Action” – with 8 – to 10-foot “angel wings” worn by participants and used to protect the mourners of pickets. The shares were issued by Roman Coloradan Patterson, who was shocked to discover the Topeka church and its neon sign outside the 1999 funeral of Matthew Shepherd, a young gay man beaten and left to die on a fence in Laramie, Wyoming.

Amidst the discussion atmosphere increasingly responsible policies may have prompted the shootings in Arizona, a new national poll indicates a majority of Americans think the fiery rhetoric of late has played no role in the tragedy that seriously wounded a member of Congress and left six dead.

According to a new CBS poll, 57 percent of Americans say political vitriol has not contributed to the attacks allegedly committed by Jared Loughner 22 years, 32 percent thought he did.

Broken down by party, 69 percent of Republicans said heated political dialogue has played no role, while 19 percent said he did. Democrats were more divided on the issue: 49 percent said there was not a link, while 42 percent thought there was. Fifty-six percent of independents said until there was no connection while 33 percent said there was.

The administration of Mayor Michael Bloomberg faced its first public oversight hearing on Monday as part of an investigation into what happened during the blizzard last month, government officials say that they should have declared a snow emergency. Bloomberg came under intense criticism after telling New Yorkers to go to a Broadway show, apparently to minimize the gravity of the crisis, during the height of the cleanup operations.

The snow also the budgets of the region, forcing administrators neighboring state to meet the additional costs of more winter weather. And with another winter storm expected Tuesday; state and municipal governments should again reach into the public coffers.
