Rick Santorum 2012, Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum says he is looking forward to The Newsmax ION Television 2012 Presidential Debate and can’t understand why most of the Republican presidential contenders have decided not to participate.

“I’m looking forward to it, and you know, the opportunity to be on the stage with Newt [Gingrich] and Donald [Trump] . . . I don’t know if there’s enough room for me as far as, you know, the presence on the stage,” Santorum told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Monday night. “But I’ll make my way through it — and I think I’ll be OK.”
Van Susteren asked the former Pennsylvania senator what he expected to happen at the Dec. 27 debate in Des Moines, Iowa, and why former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann — among others — have declined to attend.

“Well, it’s very interesting. All of them that you just mentioned went up to New York to visit Donald Trump — in fact, some of them went up repeatedly to visit Donald Trump . . . I never did,” Santorum said. “You know, I’m happy to meet with Donald Trump if — when — he comes out to Iowa. I have an office in Des Moines, and I’d be happy to meet with him if he wants to come by and meet with me.

“But I didn’t go up and try to court Donald. Yet all the people that did . . . won’t appear with him in public and take the heat from him there — I was never a courter and I’m someone who’s trying to court the people of Iowa,” he said. “And I’m happy to talk in front of any moderator who’s a serious person who wants to get to the bottom of trying to find out who the best candidate is to defeat Barack Obama.
