Reba McEntire, Reba Mcentire has fallen victim to an online death hoax. The 56 year-old country music singer was reported to have died in Austria, whilst filming a movie out there. On Monday night, the Global Associated News website posted a story that read “Preliminary reports from Austrian Police officials indicate that the actress fell more than 100 feet to her death in a remote area of the Hahnenkamm mountains while on-set during the filming of a movie. Specific details are not yet available. The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12).”

At the bottom of the page, the site owners have published a very small disclaimer that reads “FAKE. THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! This is an entertainment website and this is a totally fake article.” This was not enough, however, to stop the story spreading across the Internet, with worried fans flooding the singer’s Facebook and Twitter account with pleas for confirmation, according to The New York Daily News. They managed to get a statement from Reba Mcentire’s spokesperson, who told them that “contrary to ludicrous reports, Reba has not passed away, nor was she even in Austria at the time of her alleged death. Reba is alive and well, but would like to thank her loyal fans for their concern.”

Reba is not the first celebrity to have fallen foul of such a prank. Just last week, rumours surfaced that Cher had died and even Kim Kardashian apparently believed the story. Last year, Jon Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga and Charlie Sheen were all victims of public death hoaxes.
