Jamarcus Russell, (CP) – Former quarterback JaMarcus Russell Oakland Raiders worked with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, three days after Donovan McNabb was benched in the final minutes of a loss to Detroit.

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said Russell was one of several players, including quarterbacks some others who got a look of the team.

“We’ll evaluate him and everyone there,” Shanahan said.

The Redskins regularly invite players to work for workouts on Tuesday, but the timing of the visit only added to the Russell team quarterback drama of recent days.

Benches McNabb has raised questions about the future of six times Pro Bowl player with the team, and coach Mike Shanahan added to the confusion by offering different explanations of the decision.

Russell, the No. 1 pick in NBA Draft 2007, was released in May, after three disappointing seasons with the Raiders. He fell on the ground, has been fined for being overweight and was criticized by the coaching staff for his work ethic.

Kyle Shanahan praised the talents of Russell, but said other factors are taken into consideration when evaluating a player.

“I do not think we consider every person based solely on talent,” Kyle Shanahan. “Everybody in the NFL is very talented. (It’s) other things that really separates. He is very talented, so I think he can overcome some of the things he was struggling with. I do not really know that personally, but it looks like he is in good shape here and it works, and that’s all you can evaluate.

“Sometimes when guys do get a second chance, they can change their allegiance.”
