Rajon Rondo: Rajon Rondo & Trade Rumors

Rajon Rondo: Rajon Rondo & Trade Rumors, Despite Boston general manager Danny Ainge’s protestations to the contrary, the Celtics are still reportedly shopping point guard Rajon Rondo around the league.

With two weeks until the NBA’s trade deadline, don’t expect rumors about Rondo’s future to stop any time soon.

Ainge has said otherwise, but two of our sources also claim the Celtics would love to unload Rondo while his value is still sky high.

On Thursday Ainge told WEEI radio in Boston the following about the 26-year-old:

“He’s our best player, he’s the most important part of our future. There’s no way we’re actively trying to trade Rondo. That (makes) no sense, no logical sense.”

While Ainge may say that publicly, the reality behind the scenes is very different. The big problem Boston has with Rondo is his high-maintenance personality. He has had frequent clashes with head coach Doc Rivers and that could be a long-term distraction for the future.

The Celtics aren’t title contenders right now, and with their current roster they won’t be any time soon. Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are well into the downside of their careers and Boston is in serious need of an influx of young talent.

Rondo has three years and $36 million left on his deal after this season, which could make him more difficult to move than originally expected. Still, he’s a phenomenal point guard and one of the best defensive players in the league.

There have been rumors of a Rondo-Pau Gasol swap, but I seriously doubt the validity of those claims. The Lakers would love to get a point guard but the probability of Rondo and Kobe Bryant clashing if they played on the same team is extremely high.

We’ve also heard that the Celtics would love to send Rondo west in exchange for Stephen Curry, but the Warriors are currently not interested in such a deal. That would be a tough one for Boston to swallow right now anyway, thanks to Curry’s lingering ankle problems.
