Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Buckingham Palace revealed on Wednesday that the British Royal Family will be touring the world next year in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, which marks her 60th year in the role. Her Majesty and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will stay in the UK, but they are due to travel as much as they can throughout Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said that the royal family will travel overseas to represent the Queen during the Diamond Jubilee year. They are due to visit every Realm and undertake visits to Commonwealth nations, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories, he added.

The wold tour is an addition to the events that will be held in Britain, which includes a huge pageant on the River Thames with up to 1,000 boats and the lighting of the nation’s beacons. It also aims to capitalise on Her Majesty’s continuing popularity as the British royals seek to reinvent themselves after a difficult period after the death of Princess Diana, the wife of Prince Charles and mother of Princes William and Harry, in 1997. A four-day weekend has already been announced from June 2-5 for celebrating her reign, while events will also be staged in other countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

As for other royal family members, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Asia-Pacific region – the Solomon Islands, Singapore and Malaysia. They will also travel to Tuvalu, a tiny country in the Pacific that hasn’t been visited by the royals in decades. The Queen and Prince Philip toured the nation in 1982, when the islanders carried them on their shoulders, sitting in canoes, into the capital, Funafuti.
